Flores Votes for Balanced Budget Amendment

U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding his vote for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, H.J. Res. 2:

"Hardworking American families and businesses live by the principle of spending within their means every day and it is important that the federal government follow this same principle. A Balanced Budget Amendment to our Constitution instills permanent accountability in the way our federal government is able to spend hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Since first coming to Congress, I have been a cosponsor and strong advocate for this resolution. Fiscal responsibility is essential to reining in federal spending and decreasing our federal deficit. Every day, Americans make choices at their kitchen table to balance their budget; the federal government should not be spending more than it collects and leaving future generations on an unsustainable path. Unfortunately, the vote of 233-184 for the Balanced Budget Amendment, fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass. Despite this unfavorable result, I will continue working to fix Washington's spending problem, balance the budget and ensure the government lives within its means."
